As the physical toll of conflict mounts for Gazan civilians, so too does the emotional and psychological suffering. Yara M. Asi, an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, believes that we need new language and ways to understand the depth of trauma currently faced by Palestinians in Gaza. CNN —Devastating floods causing havoc across northern India have reached the iconic Taj Mahal in a rare event that experts warn could become a regular occurrence as the climate crisis brings ever more extreme weather. While floods occur regularly in the area during India’s monsoon season from June to September, experts say climate change is increasing their frequency and severity. CNN —A NASA spacecraft is gearing up for the first of a series of close encounters with the most volcanic place in the solar system. The Juno spacecraft will fly by Jupiter’s moon Io on Thursday, December 15. Juno captured a glowing infrared view of Io on July 5 from 50,000 miles (80,000 kilometers) away. “The team is really excited to have Juno’s extended mission include the study of Jupiter’s moons. Juno flew by Jupiter’s moon Ganymede in 2021, followed by Europa earlier this year.

The prosecutor assigned to investigate the killing of gay Puerto Rican rapper Kevin Fret in 2019 said this week that she was instructed to stop her probe and was never given an explanation. Betzaida Quiñones Rodríguez made the allegations in multiple local media outlets in Puerto Rico. She said the investigation was shut down just three months after Fret's death by order of Olga Castellón, who was the chief prosecutor at the Puerto Rico Justice Department at the time. NASA confirmed Tuesday that its Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) moved an asteroid. The DART spacecraft slammed into a space rock and changed its orbit around a larger rock by 32 minutes. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft slammed into an asteroid called Dimorphos on September 26, pushing it slightly closer to its giant parent asteroid, Didymos. As far as NASA knows, no such space rock is currently on a collision course with Earth, at least for the next 100 years.
